Then, let's move on to EVALUATE - Criterion E (maximum 6)

1.Students are expected to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification in an objective manner based on testing, and to evaluate its impact on life, society and/or the environment. They are expected to explain how the product/solution could be improved as a result of these evaluations.
2.Students are expected to evaluate their own performance at each stage of the design cycle and to suggest ways in which their performance could be improved.

To get a 6 the student: evaluates the success of the product/solution considering the results of testing, and the views of the user. The student evaluates their own performance at some stages of the design cycle and considers improvements. The student considers the impact of the product/solution on life, society and/or the environment.

1. Open your Investigation and locate your questionnaire. Show your Prezi to 5 people and ask them to answer your questionnaire.

2. Write a paragraph to "analyze" the feedback. In other words write about the scores that you received and say how your Prezi could be improved.

3. Evaluate your performance at each stage of the design cycle: Investigate, Design, Plan, Create AND suggest ways that you can improve your performance. (You need 4 paragraphs here).

4. Write a final paragraph saying if you accomplished your goal and what impact it will have. In other words, look at the unit question - were you successful? Did you meet your unit goal? Explain. (If you completed a Prezi you were successful. Remember the impact the Prezi we will teach others about environmental issues. This sense of awareness will move others to action and help make the world a better place;-)

Learning objectives - The student will: carry out tests to compare final product against design specification, suggest improvements, reflect on their performance and identify parts they found difficult and suggest ways in which their performance could be improved.

Based on your research you should have a good idea about what makes a successful prezi presentation.

The IBO says that the design specification is "A detailed description of the conditions, requirements and restrictions with which a design must comply. This is a precise and accurate list of facts such as conditions, dimensions, materials, process and methods that are important for the designer and for the user. All appropriate solutions will need to comply with the design specification."

Include a detailed list of 5 specifications.

Then create a test that will help you evaluate your product/solution in Criterion E - Evaluate.

________________________________________________________________________________
Let's brainstorm some possible design specifications . . .

3.  Formulate a Design Specification

My Prezi must possess the following characteristics:

1.       Correct spelling   This is a good design specification because. . .
2.
3.
4.
5.

To test my Prezi I will create a questionnaire. On a scale of 1-5 (1=awful, 5=awesome) I will ask the following questions:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Due date for 8.1 -  October 17, beginning of class.

IB Learner Profile: Thinker

Learning Objectives: The student will list, with little guidance, the specific requirements that must be met by the product/solution and design, with limited guidance, tests to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification. The student will design, with guidance, tests to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification.

Year 8,

Wow!  We are starting a new unit of work today.

The guiding question is: How can I help change the world? Our Area of Interaction is:  Environments.  We will try to answer the question:  How can technology influence the environment?    Prezi is the tool we will use to create is a dynamic presentation to raise awareness about an environment issue.

But before we go any further let's look at the videos.

Global Warming

Biodiversity and ecosystem losses - extinction of species

Deforestation

Water Shortages

Ocean Pollution

Now, I would like to you do research and choose a topic that you would like to educate others about.

Here are 2 links to get you started:
http://www.un.org/en/globalissues/
http://www.globalissues.org/

Some companies are very worried about the environment too and have started their own campaign.  Haagen Dazs is one such company.  Check out this link which helps us learn about the plight of the honey bee: http://www.helpthehoneybees.com/

Year 8, we are now ready to begin documenting our project.

Let's open a Word document.
Put your name in the upper left hand corner, include your tutor group.
On the next line type the word INVESTIGATE (all caps, bold) and centre it.
On the next line type 1. Identify the Problem (bold).

Now I would like you to create a Design Brief. The Design Brief is a statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are going to make it. This is the introduction to your project.  For more guidance CLICK  HERE.

 8. Begin to create a list of the steps you will need to take to create your prezi presentation and the amount of time you think it will take (1 min is the minimum)

      Start like this:
       1. Open Prezi, 1 min
       2. Insert . . .

Continue on until you have included everything necessary to complete your prezi (remember you must include at least: 1 image, 1 YouTube video, rotated text, 1 drawing, and 1 shape.  Include how/when to insert the custom colour and custom font colours.

You have 2 class periods to complete this.

Learning Objectives for Plan:  The student will: devise, with guidance, a series of logical steps to create the product/solution; construct a plan to create the product/solution that makes effective ue of resources and time; analyze the plan and explain the need for any modifications to the plan.

February 8, 10

Year 8, it's on to the Design, Criterion B.  Due Friday, February 10

We have 2 tasks this week:
1.  Create 2 designs for your Prezi
2.  Choose 1 design and write a paragraph to justify your choice.

We will create 2 designs on blank paper. We have 2 lessons this week so you have enough time to finish and do a really good job.

A complete design must contain: image, youtube video, rotated text, drawing, clear path, 1 shape, custom colour, custom font colour.  You may have Prezi open to help you make decisions about colours, shapes, drawings, etc.

Let's look at this example: http://prezi.com/shszyp_nvxxr/tech-lunch/

For help you can consult the Prezi Cheat Sheet: http://prezi.com/learn/get-started-cheat-sheet/

Please leave a comment on this post to acknowledge that you understand your assignment and an appropriate design specification. If you don't understand the assignment, please raise your hand so I can help you. Thanks so much for that;-)

Learning objectives - The student will: generate 2 designs that attempt to meet the design specification;, compare the designs against the design specifications and identify the pros and cons of each design; select one design and explain its choice.

January 31

Year 8 we are sailing through the Investigation.  Well done!

Zé if you would like to change your topic from Education to an environmental issue, see me;-)

3.  Formulate a Design Specification

Below is a list of design specifications that my product must have:
  • Correct spelling  (why?)
  • Appropriate language (why?)
  • Colourful (why?)
  • Image (why?)
  • Interesting content (why?)
Next, I will create a test to evaluate my Prezi. I will create a questionnaire.  On a scale of 1-5 (1=awful, 5=awesome) I will ask the following questions.

IB Learner Profile: Thinker

Learning objectives: The student will design, with guidance, tests to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification.

Design - February 10
Plan - February 17
Create - March 2
Evaluate - March 9
______________________________________________________________________________

1.  Identify the Problem
Write 2 paragraphs that will serve as an introduction to your project. See Investigate Template for assistance.

2.  Develop a Design Brief
The following research questions will give me enough knowledge to solve my unit question.
1.  What is Prezi? (Include a definition using your own words.)
2.  Look at 2 Prezi's to get ideas and information to help you make a creative presentation.

Year 8, Time's Up. Projects due January 25

Please submit your Evaluation today.  Please talk to me if you are unable to submit your work.  We will start our new project next week;-)

IB Learner Profile: Communicator

Learning objectives - The student will: carry out tests to compare final product against design specification, suggest improvements, reflect on their performance and identify parts they found difficult and suggest ways in which their performance could be improved, consider the impact of the product/solution on individuals and/or society, and explain how the product/solution could be improved.

January 16, 17

Please finish your Create.  Submit  your digital story and the paragraph evaluating your plan;-)

Show your digital story to 5 people and ask them to answer your questionnaire.

2. Write a paragraph to "analyze" the feedback. In other words write about the scores that you received and say how your digital story could be improved.

Explain. (If you completed a digital story you were successful.  Remember the impact the digital story will have is that we will all learn about each other's cultures and become more tolerant.  This sense of understanding will make us better global citizens and lead to a better world;-)

Learning objectives - The student will: carry out tests to compare final product against design specification, suggest improvements, reflect on their performance and identify parts they found difficult and suggest ways in which their performance could be improved,
